Doritos Pizza Rolls with Sausage
Ingredients:
1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy)
1 cup pizza sauce
1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 package egg roll wrappers (about 12-15)
1 bag (9 oz) Nacho Cheese Doritos (crushed into fine crumbs)
2 eggs (beaten)
½ cup all-purpose flour
1 cup panko breadcrumbs (for extra crunch)
Oil, for frying
Directions:
Cook the sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess grease and mix in pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, and Italian seasoning. Let cool slightly.
Assemble the rolls: Lay out an egg roll wrapper and place 2 tablespoons of the sausage mixture in the center. Fold the sides in, then roll tightly, sealing the edges with a little water. Repeat for all rolls.
Prepare the coating: Crush the Doritos into fine crumbs using a food processor or by placing them in a bag and crushing with a rolling pin. Set up a breading station with three bowls:
Bowl 1: Flour
Bowl 2: Beaten eggs
Bowl 3: Crushed Doritos + panko breadcrumbs
Bread the rolls: Dip each pizza roll in flour, then coat in egg, and finally roll in the Doritos mixture until fully covered.
Fry to perfection: Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep fryer or large pot. Fry the rolls in batches for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Drain on a paper towel.
Serve & enjoy: Serve hot with extra pizza sauce or ranch dressing for dipping!
