Ingredients
4 cube steaks (tenderized beef steaks)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
2 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
Vegetable oil (for frying)
For the Gravy:
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup milk
Salt and black pepper, to taste
Directions
Prepare the Breading: In a shallow bowl, mix flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper. In another bowl, whisk eggs and buttermilk.
Coat the Steaks: Dredge each steak in the flour mixture, then dip into the egg mixture, and coat again with the flour mixture. Press the coating onto the steak to help it adhere.
Fry the Steaks: Heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry each steak for 3-4 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
Make the Gravy: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes. Slowly whisk in milk, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and black pepper.
Serve: Pour the gravy over the crispy chicken fried steak and enjoy!
