Can’t beat the smell & taste of fresh, soft, homemade Doughnuts.🥰
Doughnuts (omit egg for a vegetarian version)

± 600ml self-raising flour
½ tsp salt
½ tsp nutmeg
½ tsp mixed spice
½ cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla essence
½ cup melted butter
1 cup sour milk
1 egg (omit for a vegetarian version)
Combine all the wet ingredients properly and then combine all the dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix to form a soft dough. If dough is too sticky, add a little extra flour at a time until not sticky but still very soft. Roll dough 1-2 cm thick and cut into doughnut shapes. Deep fry on medium heat until brown and cooked through. Drain and roll in a mixture of half cup sugar, 1 cup desiccated coconut and 1 tsp nutmeg when slightly cooled / you can dip in syrup and roll in coconut / dust with icing sugar / drizzle with a glaze
