Tofu with Garlic Sauce

Ingredients:

1 block extra-firm tofu
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Sesame seeds
Green onions, for garnish

Instructions:

Press the tofu: Wrap the tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top for 30 minutes to remove excess water.

Cut the tofu: Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes.

Coat in cornstarch: Place the tofu cubes in a bowl and toss with the cornstarch until evenly coated.

Fry the tofu: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu cubes and cook until golden brown on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.

Make the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and red pepper flakes (if desired).

Add the sauce: Pour the sauce over the fried tofu and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce thickens and coats the tofu.

Sprinkle with sesame seeds

Garnish and serve: Garnish with green onions and serve hot with rice
